Shortie

Make your Mac do what you want.

Customise your keyboard shortcuts, trackpad gestures and mouse buttons.

Free · macOS 15 or later

How it works

Trigger

A shortcut, a trackpad gesture, a mouse button or a typed abbreviation.

Action

Snap a window, open an app, type text, control music or run a script.

Apps

Everywhere, or only in the apps you choose.

Trackpad gestures

Taps, swipes, pinches and clicks with two to five fingers. Record a gesture by doing it, and Shortie tells you if macOS already uses it.

Trackpad Gestures

Window snapping

Halves, thirds, quarters and more, from the keyboard or by dragging a window to the edge of the screen. Press the same shortcut again to switch between ½, ⅓ and ⅔.

Window Snapping

Several actions at once

Chain actions together, with pauses in between. You can also run AppleScript or shell scripts, or pick an item from the current app's menus.

Several Actions

Window buttons

Give the red, yellow and green buttons new jobs. Make green maximise instead of going full screen, or right-click red to quit the app.

Install

  1. Download Shortie.dmg and drag Shortie into Applications.
  2. Open it. macOS will say it can't check Shortie for malware. That's expected, because Shortie isn't notarised by Apple yet. Click Done.
  3. In System Settings › Privacy & Security, click Open Anyway. You only do this once.
  4. Allow Accessibility when Shortie asks, then click the hand in the menu bar.

Shortie is open source, so anyone can read its code on GitHub. Needs macOS 15 or later. Trackpad gestures use a private part of macOS, so a future update could break them.

Build it yourself

git clone https://github.com/sloppyjoo/Shortie.git
